The narrative is that it is racist to require voters to present a proper government issued ID. If people couldn’t vote without an ID, it would discriminate against minorities.
If that is the case, it is truly unfortunate. This is given that there are so many other things you can’t do in the United States without a government issued photo ID.

According to a list compiled by Frank Gogol published on Stilt.com, there are at least 22 things that people must show an ID to do. These include:
- Buying alcohol
- Open a bank account
- Apply for Food Stamps (SNAP benefits)
- Apply for Welfare
- Apply for Medicaid and Social Security
- Renting or buying a house
- Buying or renting a car
- Fly on a commercial flight
- Get married
- Purchase a gun
- Adopt a pet
- Apply for a hunting license
- Rent a room in a hotel
- Apply for a fishing license
- Buy a cell phone
- Pick up prescription medication
- Visit a casino
- Apply for a public permit (for a demonstration, march, parade, public event)
- Donate blood
- Purchase a mature-rated video game
- Purchase tobacco
- Apply for unemployment benefits
If requiring a person to present a valid photo ID to vote is racist and discriminates against minorities, then doesn’t logic dictate that each item on the above list should also not require an ID because just the assumption that minorities can obtain an ID is by its nature, racist?
The truth is, requiring an ID to vote isn’t racist. Judges have overturned voter ID laws passed at the state level. In 2021, judges in North Carolina overturned and declared the state’s voter ID law as unconstitutional. The judges stated “the law intentionally discriminates against Black voters, violating their equal protections.”
How do these same judges overlook laws that require IDs to get married, buy property, open bank accounts or buy booze? Again, the presumption that voter IDs are racist is ridiculous.
The bottom line is that Democrats fight hard against voter ID laws because such laws make voter fraud more difficult. Early voting, mail in ballots, ballot harvesting, and especially voting without any identification are all tools for democrats to cheat and steal elections.
Biden’s open borders is another tool to help Democrats remain in power. Millions of illegal immigrants are being sent into cities and dispersed around the country. Democrats want these new inhabitants to be included in the census count. Millions of new people will mean a redrawing of Congressional districts of these major urban areas which will strongly favor Democrats. It would just be icing on the cake if these illegals could also vote. This would be harder if any of them had to present an ID.
What do we do?
Every town has municipal elections. Citizens vote for their town council, mayor, and other public offices. At the county level, often offices such as county commissioners, the county clerk, sheriff, even the coroner are elected.
We can introduce legislation that requires a valid government issued photo identification to vote in these local elections. Write the resolution such that a photo ID is only required to vote in local elections, not national races.
Local elections are held at the same polling places as national elections and voters will have to show an ID to vote. Towns, cities and counties control the rules for these local elections.

In order for these local voter ID laws to be overturned, first it would have to challenged. The chances that those forces who are against voter ID laws would first even notice that a local community passed and enforced a voter ID law at all and secondly, have legal standing to challenge it are much slimmer than laws at the state level.
If it were to be challenged, the municipality can defend their action based on the principal of “home rule.”
The Center for the Study of Federalism defines Home Rule as “Also referred to as local control, community autonomy, and self-governance, home rule is the principle that local governments in the American federal system should possess a high degree of discretionary authority in serving their communities.”
There is still time to draft, introduce and pass such local voter ID laws before the election in November. We’d have to act right now to push the resolutions through and enacted in time. Even at the local level, the legislative process is intentionally slow.
Local resolutions generally have to be drafted, find at least one legislator to sponsor the bill, have the bill go through a committee, then be posted for public comment for at least 30 days.
Often, resolutions by local charter, can not be voted on in the same council meeting in which it is introduced. Given that local council meetings are almost universally held monthly, that means a minimum of two months before the resolution can be voted on. Adding in the committee and public comment period, it would take on a very fast track, a minimum of 4 months to get the bill passed.
The moral of the story is that it is high time the American people stop simply standing by and being victims. It is time that We the People take control of our government right outside our front door.
